South River Tunnel 26-Man Transport Vehicle GSC Atlanta, Inc., a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, one of North America’s largest construction, engineering and mining companies, was awarded the contract for the South River Tunnel and Pump Station in Atlanta, Georgia. For this project, they elected to purchase a Brookville Equipment personnel carrier. This unit was designed for multi-use capabilities as a 10-ton locomotive and a 26-man personnel transport vehicle. The unit operates with an MSHA-approved 4cylinder turbo-charged diesel engine for optimum efficiency and less in-cab noise. Designed for use in tunnels, the man transport features a full-function operator’s station at each end. Equipped with BEC’s standard safety features, the transport vehicle has additional audible and operator-actuated warnings for the dual operator’s stations to assure proper operation. BEC’s rubber-tired units can transport miners or supplies in to the workspace utilizing the attached couplers. Utilizing two 50 hp GE motors to propel the unit on high floatation tires measuring 18x44 inches, this unit is prepared for any mine conditions. This rigid frame personnel carrier also offers crab and coordinated steering for excellent maneuverability in the tightest of spaces.
