Brookville’s 100,000 sq. ft. facility has been buzzing with activity in the past few weeks as work on a number of different units has taken place. BEC shipped a number of underground styles including battery personnel carriers, diesel maintenance units with a 2-ton crane, diesel personnel carriers, and the shipment of complete car propulsion systems (new trucks and electrical cabinets) to the New Orleans streetcar project which Brookville personnel continue to complete on-site in Louisiana. While these may have been the shipments from the facility, there is notable progress with other projects.

Brookville takes pride in custom underground projects like the 15-Ton rubber tired tractor designed to haul 20 passengers into the coal mine at Sidney Coal, Kentucky. This diesel-powered unit boasts 12 inches of ground clearance and is 72 inches high at its maximum passenger canopy height. It also runs cleanly and quietly with a Diamler Chrysler-Mercedes turbo-charged 4-cylinder engine that is combined with an after-exhaust treatment system to produce even fewer emissions.

Brookville’s newest CoGeneration™ locomotive (model BL14CG) is a 108-ton 1400 Hp unit designed for New York’s MTA Capital Construction. This locomotive will possess two Cummins Tier III 700Hp diesel engines, regenerative brakes, improved traction and engine control, and other advantages on a Brookville built frame. At just under 60 feet in length, the powerful two-engine platform will be able to efficiently and economically move freight with Brookville’s integrated multiple power source system. The unit is scheduled to depart for New York shortly, where it will be used around the city on a multitude of projects.

As the saying goes, "don't blink...you might miss something," can be said for Brookville's continued innovation and progress. As the advantages and true abilities of CoGeneration™ Locomotives become more accessible to the mainstream public, Brookville will be ready to design the right unit for each user. _________________ Michael White
